ORQUESTA MODERNA

Rosino Serrano presents his personal project, ORQUESTA MODERNA . Under his direction, this large ensemble takes the form of a big band made up of some of the finest jazz musicians in the country, achieving a unique sound in which jazz merges with a variety of Mexican and Latin American genres.

The ensemble frequently features an exceptional roster of guest soloists, including Italian harmonica player Gianluca Littera, singer Iraida Noriega, pianist Alex Mercado, guitarist Francisco Lelo de Larrea, vihuela master Fernando de Santiago, bassist Aarón Cruz, and vibraphonist Emiliano Suárez.

The first ORQUESTA MODERNA album (2019) features original works by Serrano, as well as his arrangements of music by Mexican jazz icons Eugenio Toussaint and Enrique Nery. In 2026, ORQUESTA MODERNA released two new albums: Coalescencia, featuring works for piano and big band by Alex Mercado; and Alma, with music by Serrano and the participation of renowned international soloists such as flutist Jorge Pardo, guitarist José Antonio Rodríguez, and drummer Antonio Sánchez.

The concert repertoire also includes arrangements of classic Mexican songs, featuring works by Armando Manzanero and Consuelo Velázquez. Critically acclaimed, ORQUESTA MODERNA is a long-awaited project that already holds an important place in today’s jazz landscape.
